Water shapes the experience
Rainfall changes more than the waterfalls
Water influences almost every part of the rainforest experience in Tropical
North Queensland. Rain changes river levels, track surfaces, humidity, visibility
and the sound of the forest.
Wetter conditions can make waterfalls and creeks more dramatic, while also changing
access and walking conditions. Drier periods may make travel simpler, but they do not
remove the need to prepare for tropical weather and rapidly changing local conditions.
This is one reason the region is worth thinking about as a living landscape rather
than a collection of attractions. The same place can feel substantially different
under different weather patterns.
