There have been many developments since the hand-over of the Garner’s Beach facility.
The partnership with EHP has proved fruitful as we are achieving better outcomes for the cassowary. This has been attained with the training of 11 volunteers by EHP personnel at the facility and will be enhanced with further training opportunities in the future. As well, we now have composting provision; improved fencing and gates, and drainage in the pens. Monthly meetings with EHP will ensure this partnership continues to develop and provide the best results for our endangered cassowary. Shane O’Brien, our new on-site Manager, has been doing a great job and it is certainly fantastic having some-one on site caring for the birds at all times.
We would also like to thank Graham Lauridsen for sharing his knowledge and considerable experience with us – this is invaluable in assisting us provide the best care for the birds.
